About Us

“The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

Letter from the Founder

Glenn Hattem

I recently spent time with my flip flops, jump rope (yes, jump rope!) and backpack exploring Thailand. I went in search of new personal experiences that would expand and reshape the limited view of the world I grew up in. I was also looking to learn some ancient health secrets of the East, as well as hoping to find some common threads that link all of us on this planet together.

On this quest, I meditated, fasted, detoxed, ate fried fish heads, got into the world’s largest water fight, and experienced a new way of being. I spent 10 days in a Buddhist monastery, never speaking a word, sleeping on a wooden pillow in a tiny cement cell, and meditating for about 10 hours daily. I also learned Tai Chi from a resident expert and taught jump rope to a young Thai tennis team that didn’t speak a word of English. What did I learn from these experiences?

I have learned that we are all driven by constant distraction from what is here in this present moment. Every moment is steeped in opportunity -opportunity to BE instead of having to DO. The opportunity to take the time NOW to be who and what we choose without focusing on the disappointments of the past or the made up worries of the future.

Glenn HattemI have also learned that when you do not share a common language, smiles go a really long way. Despite the obvious language and cultural differences, what I really found is that the people on the other side of the world have the same basic needs and desires as you and me. They are concerned about their health and happiness, and want to provide a good life for themselves and their children.

As far as their health is concerned, Thai people definitely have their own unique challenges. With deep-fried (even grasshoppers!) and pre-packaged, neon-green colored food sold from every street vendor, even I found it tough to stay in shape! However, at 9:00pm on almost any night of the week in most towns you'll find kids of all ages side-by-side with adults doing aerobics in the town square, complete with loud 80’s music and spandex. You had to be there to believe it, but there they were, experiencing for themselves the benefits of nightly community exercise.

The Buddha said: “Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it…Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that it agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”Glenn Hattem

I find this to be excellent advice. At Transformations, we don’t want you to just take our word for it. We believe in our programs and stand behind them 100%, but we feel very strongly that you need to try them out for yourself.

Just as traveling is the best way to form your own opinions of the world in which we live, personal experience in fitness is always the best teacher, the most comprehensive source for the truth. Seeing others take the reins to create their own positive life experience is what inspires me to teach another day.

Transformations recognizes that we are just one small company, BUT as humans, we realize that declining health is a global problem. We also understand that our programs, although powerful, offer only a portion of the overall solution. We are not fixing the world, but we are helping to inspire and improve lives one-by-one.

When it comes to changing the way people think about their fitness, health and well-being and about how their actions affect the future of our children’s behaviors, we hope that Transformations will lead the way.

Our hope is that programs similar to ours become commonplace across the globe. We also hope that, along with the participation of our clients, we can turn the tide on poor health and well-being by turning regular people just like you and me into their own best personal trainer. Together, let’s not waste another day.

Otherwise it’s just me and this clown trying to change the world in opposing directions…

I hope to see you out there, making your dreams happen.
